Fire cider used: Heat & Honey | Honey used: Heart of Piedmont Honey
This is the simplest way we know to enjoy fire cider: a spoonful in a mug of hot water with honey and lemon. Heat & Honey brings ginger, horseradish and a slow cayenne heat, and our Heart of Piedmont Honey adds butter caramel and fig notes. Make it part of a slow morning or a quiet evening.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (8 ounces) hot water, just off the boil and rested 3 to 5 minutes
- 2 teaspoons to 1 tablespoon Fire Cider: Heat & Honey, shaken well
- 2 to 3 teaspoons Heart of Piedmont Honey
- 1 thin lemon slice
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
Steps
- Heat the water, then let it rest a few minutes so it's hot but not boiling. Very hot water flattens the honey's flavor and makes the fire cider taste harsh.
- Stir the honey into the water until it dissolves.
- Stir in the fire cider. Start with 2 teaspoons, taste, and add more if you like more heat.
- Add the lemon slice and cinnamon stick and sip.
Tips and storage
- The cayenne heat builds as you sip, so go easy the first time.
- For a milder mug, use Fire Cider: Berries, Florals & Honey instead.
- Refrigerate fire cider after opening, and shake it every time you pour.
