Fire cider used: Heat & Honey
Our Heat & Honey fire cider already has horseradish, garlic, onion and cayenne in it, and that's most of what a Bloody Mary wants. So it takes the place of the horseradish, the hot sauce and the splash of vinegar. A little honey in the fire cider rounds out the tomato too. Make one for yourself, or a pitcher for brunch.
Ingredients
One drink
- 2 ounces vodka
- 4 ounces tomato juice
- 3/4 ounce Fire Cider: Heat & Honey, shaken well
- 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- A pinch of celery salt and a few grinds of black pepper
- A squeeze of lemon
- Ice
- Garnish: a celery stalk, plus olives, pickled okra or a pickle spear on a pick
Pitcher for 6
- 1 1/2 cups (12 ounces) vodka
- 3 cups (24 ounces) tomato juice
- 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon (about 4 1/2 ounces) Fire Cider: Heat & Honey, shaken well
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon celery salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Juice of 1 lemon
Glass and garnish
Tall glass with ice, celery stalk, olives or pickled okra on a pick. A celery salt rim is optional.
Steps
- One drink: Fill a tall glass with ice. Add the vodka, tomato juice, fire cider, Worcestershire, celery salt, pepper and lemon.
- Pour everything into a shaker or a second glass and back again two or three times to mix. Rolling it like this keeps the tomato juice from going foamy.
- Add the garnishes.
- Pitcher: Stir everything except the ice together in a pitcher. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour. Stir again and pour over ice in each glass.
Tips
- Heat & Honey has real kick. Start with 1/2 ounce if you're not sure, and add more after you taste.
- Make ahead: the pitcher mix (without ice) keeps covered in the fridge for up to 1 day. Stir before pouring.
- Refrigerate fire cider after opening, and shake it every time you pour.
