Fire cider used: Berries, Florals & Honey | Honey used: Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey

A smash is a bourbon drink with mint and fruit, served over crushed ice. Our Berries, Florals & Honey fire cider does the work of the fruit here, with hibiscus, elderberry, orange and a little cinnamon and clove. The barrel aged honey syrup pulls it back toward the bourbon.

Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey syrup for the bourbon drinks

Stir 1/4 cup Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey into 1/4 cup warm water until it dissolves. Let it cool before using. It keeps in a covered jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Please enjoy responsibly. 21+ only.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces bourbon (we recommend Tarnished Truth Bourbon)
  • 3/4 ounce Fire Cider: Berries, Florals & Honey, shaken well
  • 1/2 ounce Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey syrup (recipe above)
  • 6 to 8 fresh mint leaves, plus a sprig to garnish
  • 2 lemon wedges
  • Ice, plus crushed ice to serve

Glass and garnish

Rocks glass with crushed ice, mint sprig, a few blackberries (optional).

Steps

  1. In a shaker, gently press the mint leaves and lemon wedges with the honey syrup using a muddler or the back of a spoon. Press just enough to release the mint oils, not so much that you shred it.
  2. Add the bourbon, fire cider and ice. Shake for about 10 seconds.
  3. Double strain (through the shaker strainer and a small fine strainer) into a rocks glass packed with crushed ice.
  4. Slap the mint sprig between your palms once and tuck it in next to a few blackberries if you have them.

Tips

  • Taste before you serve. The fire cider is already tart, so you may want a touch more honey syrup.
  • Refrigerate fire cider after opening, and shake it every time you pour.
