Honey used: Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey
I make my old fashioned with honey syrup instead of a sugar cube, and the barrel aged honey is the one I reach for. It doesn't need much. A small spoon of it rounds out the bourbon without making it sweet.
Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey syrup for the bourbon drinks
Stir 1/4 cup Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey into 1/4 cup warm water until it dissolves. Let it cool before using. It keeps in a covered jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Please enjoy responsibly. 21+ only.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces bourbon (we recommend Tarnished Truth Bourbon)
- 1/4 ounce Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey syrup (recipe above)
- 2 dashes aromatic bitters
- 1 dash orange bitters (optional)
- Ice
- Orange peel
Glass and garnish
Rocks glass, one large ice cube, an orange peel.
Steps
- Add the bourbon, honey syrup and bitters to a mixing glass with ice.
- Stir for about 30 seconds, until it's very cold.
- Strain into a rocks glass over one big cube.
- Twist the orange peel over the drink so its oils land on top, then drop it in.
Tips
- Start with 1/4 ounce of syrup. You can always stir in a little more.
