The beekeeper's favorite

Honey used: Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey | Optional fire cider: Berries, Florals & Honey

This is the beekeeper's favorite drink. It's our take on the classic Brown Derby, made with pink grapefruit and our barrel aged honey. It's bright and a little tart, with the oak and vanilla of the honey underneath. If you want it pinker, a small splash of our Berries, Florals & Honey fire cider does that.

Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey syrup for the bourbon drinks

Stir 1/4 cup Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey into 1/4 cup warm water until it dissolves. Let it cool before using. It keeps in a covered jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Please enjoy responsibly. 21+ only.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces bourbon (we recommend Tarnished Truth Bourbon)
  • 1 ounce fresh pink or ruby red grapefruit juice
  • 1/2 ounce Whiskey Barrel Aged Honey syrup (recipe above)
  • Optional: 1/4 ounce Fire Cider: Berries, Florals & Honey, shaken well, for color
  • Ice
  • A grapefruit peel for the twist

Glass and garnish

Chilled coupe, served up, with a grapefruit twist.

Steps

  1. Add the bourbon, grapefruit juice, honey syrup, and the fire cider if you're using it, to a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake hard for about 12 seconds, until the tin feels very cold.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe.
  4. Twist the grapefruit peel over the drink so its oils land on top, then rest it on the rim or drop it in.

Tips

  • Squeeze the grapefruit fresh. Bottled juice tastes flat here.
  • Grapefruits vary a lot in sweetness. Taste, and add a little more honey syrup if yours is very tart.
  • With the fire cider splash, start at 1/4 ounce. It adds tang as well as color.
  • Refrigerate fire cider after opening, and shake it every time you pour.
